The cry came from off to the left of Hambonius and was filled with panic, as if the woman who had made it had been cut off by her own shortness of breath. Quickly drawing his magic smoking staff, he floated as quickly as his enchantments would carry him towards the source of the sound.
Within a few moments, he was nearly bowled over by a stout, hook-nosed woman. Her hair was wild from her flight and adorned with bits of forest litter. Her face was pale and plump and she had a wild look in her eye.
"Please save me!" she said, putting her arms on the surprised Hambonius and shaking him.
Not missing a beat, Hambonius telepathically called for his companion, the Great Wurm Stalhregen. A great rush of air came from above as the dragon extended its wings in its landing approach, stirring up a maelstrom of twigs, leaves and debris. Hambonius covered his eyes and blinked at the dirt. The woman's already tortured courage failed and she fainted, twisting into a heap on the ground.
"Finally." Hambonius breathed, weaving arcane symbols into the air.
"I thought I'd never catch her. Delve is a pretty big forest, brosef!" Stalhregen said.
Hambonius' spell completed with a clap and Stalhregen was shape-shifted into a snake. He immediately slithered between the folds of the woman's clothes and into her body and began forcing his way through her cervix into her uterus.
The woman began to stir. She looked sleepily at the wizard standing over her and, after a bemused instant, began clutching in agony at her stomach. She looked at Hambonius with terror in her eyes before unceremoniously shambling to her feet. Stahlregen had begun to lay his eggs within her - because he was facing into the woman, he had to vomit his eggs into her through his mouth. His tail could be seen poking out of the woman's dress.
Frantically, the woman tried to pull the Great Wurm out of her, but his scales dug deep into her guts and she cried out in pain. She screamed some sounds, probably meaning for them to be words but twisted by her agony into crude, animal language sounds. She took one last pleading look at the wizard before running off into the dark forest of Delve.
She had gotten almost out of sight when Stahlregen laid his last egg and released his grip, falling out of the woman's body and bouncing painfully against the ground.
Their competition had come to an end. Stalhregen had indeed mated with a human woman before Hambonius, although she would later die tragically as his hatchlings devoured her from the inside, but not before the Great Wizard and the Great Wurm's companions were through with her.
